We’re sorry for your loss, and will do all that we can to make this transition as easy as possible. Please note that typically we can only deliver an account's domain name into another party's care, and cannot transfer the full contents of the original account.
Required documents
To request custody or cancellation of a deceased user's domain, please gather all of the following documents:
- A letter that contains a request for action and states both your identity and your relationship to the decedent. This letter should also include a valid email address so that we can contact you in connection with the transfer process.
- A copy of the decedent’s death certificate.
- One of the below:
- A Will or Trust appointing you as Executor of the decedent’s estate.
- A sworn affidavit, signed by the decedent and notarized, providing complete Power of Attorney over all of the decedent’s affairs (or at minimum of the decedent’s business of which the small business services relate). Note that a Power of Attorney for Medical care does not satisfy this requirement.
- An order from a court of competent jurisdiction (meaning a court that has the right to hear and rule over a case involving both the decedent and yourself) stating that you are either the rightful owner of, the beneficiary to, or the Executor of the decedent’s estate.
Note: Before attaching, please redact the deceased’s private information to protect the deceased’s identity - for example, Social Security number, veteran’s discharge or claim number, parental names and birthplaces.
Sending in your documents
Once you have gathered the above documents and redacted the necessary private information, here are the next steps:
- Contact our support team at 1-833-689-8585 and let your support representative know that you wish to submit paperwork for a deceased user's account.
- Provide your support representative with the domain name and/or login ID you wish to have closed or transferred.
- We will create a ticket for you and send you an email requesting the documents.
- Respond to the email with your documents attached. Please note that failure to properly redact information from your documents may delay processing.
- Your ticket will then be sent for review of the documentation. This step will take some time, please be patient with us while we work to review your documentation.
- Once the review is completed, we will contact you to arrange for transfer of the appropriate service(s) as applicable--this may include cancelling the current account, updating the domain's registration information, or walking you through taking possession of the domain administration rights.
