As of June 20, 2017, we have discontinued the catch-all mailbox feature for business email.
What is a catch-all mailbox?
The catch-all mailbox receives messages sent to email addresses at a domain that don’t have their own mailboxes. It’s usually used to make sure messages sent to commonly misspelled addresses don’t get returned as undeliverable.
For example, let’s say Thomas Thumb has the email address thomas.thumb@widgetdesigns.com. If this mailbox has the catch-all feature active, it will also receive mail sent to tom.thumb@widgetdesigns.com, thomasthumb@widgetdesigns.com, etc.
Why is catch-all mailbox being discontinued?
Spammers outside of the Yahoo network sometimes falsify the email addresses they are sending from--this is called spoofing. Catch-all mailboxes can collect a large number of spoofed messages, resulting in reduced mail performance across the Yahoo network.
What will happen if I’m currently using a catch-all mailbox?
We automatically disabled the catch-all mailbox feature on June 17, 2017. Messages sent to email addresses on your domain that don’t exist will be returned to the sender as undeliverable.
Will this delete any of my existing email messages?
No. All messages in your mailboxes will stay there, regardless of whether they arrived using the catch-all feature.
What should I do if I’m currently using the catch-all mailbox feature?
Create aliases for the common misspellings that you want to make sure get delivered.
If you’re using the catch-all mailbox for multiple individual email addresses, you should
create aliases for those specific email addresses. Alternatively, you could also
create a new mailbox for some or all of them.
