Cloning a WordPress website creates a full copy of the website files, database, and settings. You may want to clone your website as a staging site to test new plugins or make changes without affecting the production website. You may also want to clone a website to use the existing structure for a new website or create several clones to make slight changes to each website before making a final design decision.
Click the WordPress Management link on the left toolbar. Note: WordPress Management is not available for the WordPress Essentials Hosting plan.
Click the Clone link for the website you want to clone. A modal opens to the clone settings.
Select a Target option:
Select Create subdomain (if you want a domain with a prefix) and enter a Name in the subdomain field. Select a Domain if you have more than one in the dropdown. Enter a clone path or leave it blank to clone in the root directory. Note: The default subdomain is staging.
Select Use existing domain (to create a subfolder) and then select a Domain if you have more than one in the dropdown. Enter a clone path to create the subfolder. Note: The default clone path is staging.
Enter a Database Name following the WordPress default name or leave it as auto-populated.
Click the Start button.
A confirmation message appears when the cloning process is completed.
Tip: If you are creating a clone for a staging website, review these steps to copy staging back to production.
