Know the warning signs and what to do if you believe that someone is attempting to compromise your business email account.
Signs of a compromised account
- You are not receiving messages.
- Your business email account is sending spam messages to your contacts. Note: This can be done either by spoofing or your account being compromised. Note that account compromisers may delete sent messages from the Sent folder and empty the Trash folder to hide their tracks.
- Your business email settings and/or profile settings have been changed without your knowledge.
Review your business email settings and profile settings
Someone may compromise your account and make changes in your email and profile settings in order to disrupt your inbox. Make sure to check your email and profile settings for any unauthorized changes. Things to check in your business email settings include:

- Alternate email address
- Mobile number
- App password
If the information has been changed, make sure to update your business email profile.
Important: If you believe that your account has been compromised, change your business email password and app password(s) immediately. You should also check your computer and/or mobile device for viruses or other malware.
