What is SSL?
Secure Sockets Layer or SSL is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browser remains private. This means that your site will load securely via HTTPS, rather than insecure HTTP.
Why should I secure my domain?
Secure pages load more quickly, have higher search rankings, and won't show warning messages in browsers such as Chrome. Note: If browsing your domain via the secure (https) protocol, such as https://your-site-here.net, the domain will show an SSL error. This will include when a redirect is set on the domain.
What types of SSL certificates are available?
Currently, we have Domain-validated certificates available. We will have other certificate options coming soon.
How do I get started?
SSL certificates are automatically created and enabled in the SSL/TLS Manager for your site. We have step-by-step setup instructions if you need to autorun or generate a new SSL certificate on this Help Article.
What about my subdomains?
SSL certificates that are enabled in the SSL/TLS Manager support subdomains.
Will my SSL certificate expire?
Your SSL certificate will auto-renew and is a standard feature of the cPanel web hosting service. Note: If you manage an SSL certificate from another service and experience issues, follow these instructions in this Help Article.
What happens if I change my DNS settings?
Your SSL certificate will be valid for your root domain (e.g., your-site-here.net) and any subdomain (e.g., blog.your-site-here.net). As such, if you change the A and CNAME records for your root domain and the subdomain, the certificate cannot be issued and cannot be renewed. The A and CNAME records for your root domain and the subdomain must be kept at their default settings if you wish to use the certificate on the Turbify platform.
Will my email forms be secure?
SSL-encrypted contact forms do encrypt the submission of the form but do not encrypt the email generated by the form. As such, these forms are not compliant with the PCI DSS. For more information, see the Turbify Terms of Service.
Note: Enabling SSL will not automatically secure assets that are being loaded from insecure locations. These assets are generally third-party assets but may also be generated from a subdomain (such as a WordPress blog). In cases such as these, you will need to store or load these assets via a secure location.
